Natura 2000


One third of the country is included in Natura 2000, which is an ecological network of protected areas in European Union, designed to protect the most seriously threatened habitats and species.

Slovenian coast


Even though we have one of the shortest coasts, which shoreline is only 46.6 km long; it boasts a few picturesque medieval towns, among which Piran is the most famous, and a few natural parks.


Cerknica Lake


Cerknica Lake can turn to a dry land literary over a night. That is a karst phenomenon that was attracting visitors already a few centuries ago.

Gorenjska

Dolenjska

In the south east of the country is Dolenjska, through which the Krka river flows. The landscape is comprised of the a number of tributaries, some deeep forestation and the beautiful Gorjanci mountain range.

 

Notranjska

Notranjska is a predominantly hilly region, covered with karstotranjska phenomena and extensive forests. Farmers are mainly occupied with stock breeding, and the forests have encouraged the development of wood processing industries.

 

Stajerska

Landscape between the Drava and Mura rivers has many faces: in the surroundings of Gornja Radgona, Ljutomer, Ormoz, Ptuj, and Maribor there are large vineyards, around Lenart there are orchards of high quality apple varieties.

 

Primorska

Primorska includes the Slovene coast and its hilly hinterland. The warm Adriatic Sea enables a lively tourist industry, saltworks, and commercial fishing. The Port of Koper is the center of the region and Slovenia’s maritime gateway to the world.

 

Prekmurje

Essentially defined by the Mura - a slow, meandering, lazy river - it is one of Slovenia's wine-growing regions and also the origin of one of the world's great cakes: Gibanica. Being flatter than most of the the country, it is great for biking.

 

Koroska

Koroska was once part of the oldest state of the Slovene people and was part of Austrian Carinthia until the end of World War I. It extends across the northern mountainous world along the Drava, Mezica, and Mislinja rivers.

 

Ljubljana & surrounding

Central Slovenia includes the central part of the Ljubljana Basin and the surrounding hills. Major European transportation routes intersect here near the Sava River and routes from the Pannonian Plain to the Adriatic pass through the Ljubljana Gate.
