Slovenija in Brief

The Republic of Slovenija lies at the heart of Europe, where the Alps face the Pannonian plains and the Mediterranean meets the Karst. To the north is Austria; Hungary is to the east; Croatia to the south and Italy to the west.

Notranjska

Notranjska is a predominantly hilly region, covered with karstotranjska phenomena and extensive forests. Farmers are mainly occupied with stock breeding, and the forests have encouraged the development of wood processing industries.

Human fish (Proteus anguinus), which was first mentioned and researched in Slovenian carst region, never changes into its adult form, which is typical for amphibious animals. Nevertheless, it matures sexually. It lives in the underground waters of Dinarid Mountains along the Adriatic coast.
